Freshen' Up Your Face
The new year brings with it many "new" things: resolutions, jobs, cities, etc. Many of us strive to adhere to a more healthier lifestyle. This touches all spectrums including physical fitness, drinking more water, and even investing in skincare.
One of my favorite things to do on a weekly basis is applying a face mask. The best ones often leave my skin feeling refreshed, moisturized and baby skin smooth! I'll link some of my favorite masks at the bottom of this post, but before I do that... I'd love to share a HOMEMADE mask that my friend, Tracey, whipped up using a few ingredients she had at home.
Recently, I was on the hunt for an all-natural face mask - something organic, free of
toxins, and an ingredient list that I could pronounce. After a lot of searching, I decided it was time to take matters into my own hands. With a little research
and a few simple ingredients… wallah! I had made my own face mask.
Start 2017 off with an amazing DIY organic face mask...
• ½ of an avocado
• 1 tsp organic honey
• 1 tsp plain yogurt (the higher in fat, the more moisturizing)
Prep time: 2-5 min
Leave on face: 15-25 min
Remove with a warm wash cloth. Finish with a splash of cool water and your favorite
Here’s what I discovered from the mask ingredients:
- Avocados are moisturizing and won’t clog your pores, they are rich in omega-3 fatty
acids, contain Vitamin C and also brighten skin and reduce age spots.
- Honey boosts skins hydration and due factor, it is full of antioxidants, and is great for
slowing down aging.
- Greek Yogurt contains lactic acid which acts as a gentle exfoliant, giving skin that fresh
faced glow without any irritation.
You can apply this mask 2-3 times a week by making a fresh application each time.
I was able to make the Avocado Honey Yogurt mask after talking about it with Tracey and it was pretty amazing. I kind of have an obsession with avocado, so why not incorporate it into my skincare routine, right?
Here are some masks that I've used and highly recommend:
I tried out the Mario Badescu - Whitening Mask because I heard it would help with dark spots which have crept up over the recent years from my days of tanning from morning to night. Well, it works! It's not an instantly noticeable difference, but after a few applications I started to see results. I only use this 1 or 2 a month max.
The smell of this Fresh - Rose Face Mask was enough to seal the deal for me. I love the cooling texture of the ingredients. This is ideal for those with any minor skin blemishes that you want to get rid of quickly. The mask has pure rosewater which is great applying directly to skin on its own on a regular basis!
I got this as a gift from a friend that they purchased from a shop called Follain in the South End of Boston. Some may find it strange to receive a face mask as a gift. Not me! In reading about the Indie Lee - Clearing Mask prior to using it, I immediately learned that it was great for oily skin. I have super sensitive skin, sometimes dry and sometimes oily. This was perfect for the oily weeks. It really drys up my face, without leaving it feeling stiff and itchy. If you're in the market for great skin products (head to toe,) I highly recommend checking out Follain. They have locations in South End, Beacon Hill and Nantucket for Massachusetts-based folks, as well as Washington, DC and SoHo, NYC.
Miss Damsel in Dior sold me on this just last week when she tried it out and shared on snapchat. For $12.99, you can't pass on the L'Oreal Pure-Clay Mask. I hate to say it, but this might be a top contender for me. I first tried it out after coming home from a work trip. My skin was dehydrated and shiny as could be. This mask turned me into a new person - more hydrated and healthier. Give it a try!
The Josh Rosebrook - Active Enzyme Exfoliator mask is designed for both skin and hair. I've yet to try on my hair, but that's up next. Like I mentioned, I have really sensitive skin. Sometimes I break out in very dry patches on my face. The exfoliating ingredients in this help to massage any dead skin away. Some of the ingredients in this include honey, avocado oil, sunflower oil, thyme and lavender.
