Time for a Getaway
Updated: Mar 14, 2019
Between Dennis's busy end of 2018 travel schedule, the holidays and a busy 2019 work schedule for me... a weekend escape was much needed for us. In searching for the perfect location, we really wanted somewhere we could bring Karsen because we typically take trips that require a plane ride and leave him behind. I also wanted a place that was quiet and a bit remote where neither of us have ever been before. Cue: Getaway House.
I have seen a few of my friends sharing photos from their Getaway weekend and thought it looked so fun. A log cabin, Instagram-esque photos AND a little bit of disconnection from the world? Sign me up! I would have stayed for a week if we could. When I say log cabin, it definitely is just that, but so much more. I guess I would have to mark it as "glamping" which is totally the speed for Dennis and I. Each cabin has a bathroom with a standup shower, a mini fridge, stove and heat (clutch for the winter months) and a queen size bed. There are cabins for 2 people, as well as a group of four (BUNK BEDS!!)
Thinking about what we were going to do during our two-night stay, I packed all the essentials: snacks, a deck of cards, wine, beer and breakfast foods. To our surprise, the cabin was stocked with a lot of goodies for purchase that you wouldn't expect: coffee, pasta, hot chocolate, etc. Everywhere we turned, we were surprised. Getaway House really thought of everything to make it a memorable weekend, without going overboard - just the essentials.
I recently heard from the Founder of Getaway House at a conference earlier this year and was drawn to how they craft a truly memorable experience for each person who stays at their locations. One of the most unique features is that each cabin is named after the grandparents of the Getaway team. I thought that was so special!
A few recommendations for those local to the Boston area:
Chichester Country Store
Dennis happened to find this country store and I'm so glad he did! We were able to get coffee, breakfast sandwiches and apple cider donuts here. The prices are INSANELY cheap! I highly recommend the glazed apple cider donut - DELISH!
Blasty Bough Brewing Company
OK, so maybe we didn't stay in our tiny four walls the entire weekend. If you've been following me for a while, you know that Dennis and I frequent breweries wherever we go. This local nano brewery was recommended to us from some friends and it's pet friendly. Karsen was able to join us (YAY!) and met a friend, Charlie (house dog). This place serves a flight per person and offers a wide range of beers.
Definitely a theme here - another brewery! This is a hidden gem connected to Johnson's (a really good restaurant with a full ice cream stand, too). Aside from the amazing beer, they have some pretty great pizzas, bar snacks and games, too!
My advice for those thinking about booking a Getaway: Prepare for a fun adventure!
